Splish Splash-Pool Therapy

Shae is one week out of surgery and that means that it is pool therapy day.

When you are a week out of surgery, you are able to go to the pool in Avon to do therapy. You still have to wear the op-site bandages in order to prevent you from getting an infection in your two incission areas. You go to pool therapy with a whole bunch of hip patients, and they are a variety of patients that are a couple of weeks out, to a couple of months out, to a couple of years out. You feel amazing after and during pool therapy because you are able to move in ways that you can't do on land.

During pool therapy you start off with an aqua jogger which is a float belt that wraps around your stomach. This belt helps to keep you a float in the water. So, once the belt is on and the PT or your care taker has helped get you into the pool, then you are ready to start your jogging. You start doing laps of jogging and you do a riding a bike movement, where you move your legs in circular motions. This helps open your hip flexor up, and it makes the stiffness in your leg feel better.

You also do kicking with a kick board, but you have to do it on your back. And then you also do some self-circumduction where you move your leg in a circular motion which in a standing position, and you also do some standing abduction exercises.

Pool therapy days are a ton of fun but they can make you incredibly tired because in addition to the pool, you still have to do your normal 2 therapy sessions of the day.

So, the plus part of pool therapy days is that you have the best night sleep afterwards.
